Overview

The Northern Mariposa County History Center shows various displays and photos that provide an authentic glimpse of the life and times of the pioneers who helped settle the area in the early 1800’s and those who traveled west during the 1849 California gold rush.

The Northern Mariposa County History Center’s on-site gift shop is a great place to grab souvenirs from your visit as well as unique gifts for family and friends. The shop carries everything from jewelry to authentic soaproot brushes made by Native American artists. Homegoods such as turned bowls made from local manzanita and black walnut trees, woven wool wearables from Wild Fire Sheep Ranch, and for kids, break your own geodes, toys, games and real samples of gold.

If you really want to see what a gold rush town looked like back in the day, Coulterville is the place to go. With over 40 historical buildings and landmarks, the town has a fascinating story, and the Northern Mariposa County History Center tells it very well.
