Overview
The Ahwahnee distinguishes itself as one of the crown jewels of national park lodges. The hotel is a must-visit destination within Yosemite Valley for its dining, décor and architecture that complements the natural setting of the park. The Ahwahnee was designed and built in the 1920s with the specific goal of attracting well-to-do clientele. In the following century, The Ahwahnee has more than fulfilled that ambition, hosting presidents and royalty as well as other famous personalities within its walls.
At the east end of Yosemite Valley, The Ahwahnee is surrounded by many of Yosemite’s most famous icons. You won’t need to go far to experience the iconic views travelers come from around the world to see. A casual stroll of the hotel grounds reveals views of Half Dome, Yosemite Falls and Glacier Point.
A shuttle bus stop in front of the hotel connects you to a shuttle system ready to carry you to a host of other Yosemite Valley destinations.
Within The Ahwahnee hotel’s walls, the Great Lounge provides a welcoming place to relax in the evening with a book. Crackling fires provide warmth and light from the lounge’s enormous fireplaces in colder months.
Smaller spaces like the Yosemite Winter Club Room or the Mural Room create intimate group meeting spaces just off of the main lounge, and are filled with historic photos and artwork that are worth visiting.
The Ahwahnee Dining Room is a must-see as well. The 34-foot-high beamed ceilings soar above floor to ceiling windows that showcase the beauty of the surroundings.
Find time to cozy up to The Ahwahnee Bar for drinks or a more casual meal – with outdoor seating available you can soak in the views in this perfect dining experience.
To visit The Ahwahnee is to be immersed in the historic legacy of the place. Discover the original design elements and historic artwork that make The Ahwahnee a premier lodge within the National Park Service system. Learn how the place has grown and changed since those early days. Walk in the footsteps of celebrities and royalty (like Queen Elizabeth) and learn more about the stories on a Historic Ahwahnee Tour.
A stay at The Ahwahnee includes many different lodging types. In addition to hotel rooms in the main hotel, there are suites and junior suites with private fireplaces and/or balconies on the upper floors. For those looking for a more secluded experience, the hotel’s cottages are nestled into the forest on the hotel grounds, just a short walk from the main hotel.
When you make Ahwahnee reservations, you’ll enjoy so much more than just a hotel stay in the park. Yosemite National Park offers something for everyone, and with plenty of activities near the famous hotel, there is no shortage of ways to make the most out of your vacation. If you make your Ahwahnee hotel reservations in time, you can join in the excitement surrounding the hotel on all sides. After your stay, you’ll leave awestruck by its natural beauty.
