Yosemite's Waterfalls

Formed by glaciers over centuries, Yosemite is a playground for waterfall enthusiasts. Nowhere in the world is there a concentration of major waterfalls. Ribbon and Upper Yosemite (pictured above) rank up there with the best the world has to offer, and Yosemite, along with Bridalveil and Vernal, are among the best known.

From almost any point on the valley floor visitors can see at least one waterfall.

El Capitan Falls drops 1,400 feet and often blows entirely away before reaching the bottom. Some falls, such as Cascade and Silver Strand, which would be famous anywhere else, are hardly mentioned in the guidebooks,

Following are Yosemite's magnificent waterfalls and their heights:

Upper Yosemite Falls -1,430 ft.
Lower Yosemite Falls - 320 ft.
Bridalveil Falls - 620 ft.
Illilouette Falls - 370 ft.
Nevada Falls - 594 ft.
Ribbon Falls - 1,612 ft.
Silver Strand Falls - 1,170 ft.
Vernal Falls - 319 ft.
