Many families love to bring their pets along with them on the family vacation—we love pets too! All we ask is that your pets abide by a few friendly rules*, helping make their vacation (and yours) a most enjoyable one:
Pets are allowed:
- In developed areas throughout Yosemite
- On fully-paved trails and roads
- In campgrounds except Tamarack Flat, Porcupine Flat, and walk-in campgrounds
Pets are NOT allowed:
- On unpaved trails
- On unplowed roads, covered in snow
- In wilderness areas throughout Yosemite
- On shuttle buses
- In any group or horse camps
A few other things to keep in mind, if you bring your pet with you to Yosemite:
- Pets MUST be restrained on a leash not more than six feet in length
- Do not leave leashed pets unattended
- Human companions are responsible for cleaning up and depositing pet feces in trash receptacles throughout the Park
Perhaps the MOST important thing to remember for both your safety and the safety of your pets:
Pet food is also BEAR food – store pet food as if it is human food.
*These regulations protect both pets and wildlife from disease and each other. The National Park Service has prohibited pets on trails for many years. In particular, dogs chase wildlife, pollute water sources, and can be defensive and dangerous in unfamiliar surroundings. Pet owners have the burden to assure their pet does not damage the park values for others in those areas wherein pets are allowed.
