FAQ

Q: What is the fee to enter Yosemite?

A: Entering Yosemite National Park will cost $20.00 per car, or $10 per person. You’ll receive a “pass” that is good for entry/exit to the park for seven days. Visitors may also purchase an annual pass for $40.00.

Q: Do I need a permit to climb Half Dome?

A: In order to increase safety along the Half Dome cables, all people using the Half Dome Trail above the sub-dome must have a permit in possession every day when the cables are up. The cables are taken down each October for the fall and winter seasons and put back in place in the spring, as conditions permit. Visitors are strongly advised against attempting to summit Half Dome without the cables in place as the dome can be extremely slippery and may be wet and/or icy even in seemingly dry conditions. For more information, contact the National Park Service at (209) 372-0200.

Q: Great! Where can I purchase a permit?

A: All permits are available through www.recreation.gov, with no permits available for pick-up at the Park. There is a $1.50 fee per permit reservation.

Q: When is Tioga Pass open?

A: Clearing of the Tioga Road begins on or about April 15, each year; the process usually lasts between one and two months. Predicting when the road will open is not even possible, even in late spring, as weather in April and May can affect plowing progress significantly.
